Taste of Heaven

Synopsis

⁣Baruch, a young daydreamer studying at a Yeshiva, believes that life on earth is merely a corridor leading to Heaven.
He devises a plan to ensure his place in paradise: endure the torments of hell in this life to guarantee bliss in the next. To achieve this, he finds Nehama, a harsh fish-seller at the market, whom he believes will make his life a living hell.

Baruch begins working for Nehama, and she indeed makes his life miserable as he intended. However, one evening, Baruch returns home to find Nehama with makeup on, smiling, and the table set for a romantic, candlelit dinner. Furious at losing his chance for Heaven, Baruch pulls off the tablecloth and faints.

In his faint, angels carry him toward Heaven. Suddenly, Nehama appears and pulls him back to the world. Suspended between Heaven and earth, Baruch must choose between continuing to Heaven or returning to his love. He chooses Nehama, and together they soar over Jerusalem like in a Chagall painting. Baruch awakens to Nehama whipping him with a herring, bringing him back to life.
